Fabrics & Trim

BARRIER CLOTH
If a specific fire code such as California TB 133 needs to be met, we can incorporate the proper barrier cloth to meet these standards.

BUTTONS
Buttons can be added or made to contrast most items.

BULLION
Bullion trim over skirts is available as an option. Skirts will be adjusted to match the bullion height. Most skirted items have 5” legs, so to properly install a bullion trim, we suggest a 6” or longer bullion.

CHENILLES
Chenilles are designed and woven for a soft, luxurious, casual hand. To achieve these characteristics they are loosely woven and often washed. These attributes will cause more maintenance than in other fabrics, by having to constantly flip, rotate and fluff the seat cushions, back pillows and throw pillows. In addition, we will ask that all Chenilles be synthetic backed to help reduce shifting of sewn covers over their fillers and stablize the fabric to achieve a more tailored look.

CUSTOMER'S OWN LEATHER (C.O.L.)
Customer’s Own Leather can be used on most styles. To calculate the square footage required, multiply 17 square feet of leather per one yard of plain 54” goods. For calf skins or other extremely small hides, use 21 square feet per yard. Remember to add for repeats on embossed leathers. We will cut leather as free of flaws as possible. We may have to piece large areas to increase the yield and remove flaws. Remember, leather is a product of nature and scars, scrapes, wrinkles and imperfections are very common and only add to the beauty and character of each piece. Also see “Non Breathable Fabrics” for more important information about leather construction.

CONTRAST FABRICS
Using two contrasting fabrics, such as an inside/outside application on a wing chair or body/cushion application can be done. Color blocking is also available with as many as six different fabrics.

CONTRAST WELTING
Contrast welting made from fabric is available on any style. The average chair or ottoman will require 1.5 yds of plain 54” goods, a loveseat will require 2 yds and a sofa will require 2.5 yds. Estimates are for most average styles, some styles may require more or less fabric depending on welting applications.

CORDING
See “Decorative Trim”

CRYPTON® FABRICS
See “Non Breathable Fabrics”

DECORATIVE TRIMS
Cording and fringe application in lieu of welt is available on most styles.

DOUBLE NEEDLED SEAMS
Double needled seams, sometimes known as baseball or saddle stitching are available in lieu of welting.

EXCESS C.O.M.
If requested on the original order, we will return excess COM along with the furniture being shipped. If the return of the excess COM is requested after the furniture has been shipped, it will be shipped COD. We will only reserve excess COM for 30 days after an order has shipped.

FABRIC APPLICATION
If a specific fabric application is desired, it must be noted on the original order. Unusual requests will incur an additional charge. If no instructions are supplied, the layout will be determined by our cutting staff for the best pattern placement and yield. If the face of the fabric is not specified, we will use the “rolled-in” side as the face. Stripes and patterns will be run vertical, unless noted otherwise. If a fabric has a nap, we will run it smooth from top to bottom or to the left unless requested not to do so, or a pattern determines otherwise. See “Yardages” for additional important information.

FABRIC BACKING
If a fabric is deemed too lightweight, too loosely woven, or washed for proper construction, we will request it be backed by a commercial fabric finishing company. Cost for backing will be quoted on an as needed basis. We will not be responsible for any changes to the fabric that may occur as a result of the backing process. If our request of fabric backing is denied, we will ask that a wavier be signed removing us from any and all liability.

FAUX SUEDES

FIRE CODES
Upholstered items manufactured by Duralee Fine Furniture® meet California TB 117 for flammability safety. If additional fire codes are required to be met, they can be done for an up charge based on the specific code and compliance steps required by the governing body.

FLAME RETARDANTS
Fabrics can be treated by a commercial fabric finisher to meet flame retardant specifications. The cost will be quoted on an as needed basis. We will not be responsible for any changes to the fabric as a result of the flame retardant process.

FRINGE
See “Decorative Trims”

LAYOUT CHARGES
If we are asked to layout a fabric to see if less yardage is required from our stated charts, please contact the factory.

Please do not short us fabric, as it will extend lead times. Allow us the materials to create your furniture beautifully.

LEATHER
See “C.O.L. (Customer’s Own Leather)”

MUSLIN
If an item is requested to be upholstered in muslin supplied by us, please contact the factory. We will not welt any part of the item or apply skirt treatments unless requested.

NON-BREATHABLE FABRICS
Fabrics such as leather, vinyl, Crypton®, and some faux suedes will require breather panels to allow the air to escape once they are sat upon. We will apply the breather and remove the self-decking. We strongly suggest that these fabrics also not be used on skirted items, as they will not hold a crease when pressed and the result will be a very casual appearance.

SELF-DECKING
Self-Decking is standard on all DFF® that has seat cushions. Items upholstered in a “Non Breathable Fabric” will have a sateen type decking to allow the cushions to breathe.

TRIMS
See “Decorative Trims”

VINYL
Most vinyls can be used. We suggest not using vinyl on skirted items. Breather panels will be installed to seat cushions and back pillows. See “COL” and “Non Breathable Fabrics” for additional information.

WELTING
All welting is bias cut. To keep yardage requirements to minimum, some styles may not be cut on a true bias. Please, if you wish the welts to be cut on a “true bias”, allow an additional 10% yardage.

YARDAGES
Yardage requirements are based on plain 54” goods cut up the roll. We estimate the yardage requirements as accurate as possible. Specific layouts, or unusual fabric repeats may require additional fabric. We will not be responsible for additional yardages required except when manufacturing errors have been made by Duralee Fine Furniture®. Some of the common fabrics that require excessive amounts will be those with patterns that run up the center of the roll, or fabrics that have patterns shifted to one side of the fabric.
